After DC, we picked up the new volunteer and drove to Carolyn's house in Vermont. There we were reminded what a family PWW is.

This update of our time in Honduras is to show a behind-the-scenes view of what is involved to bring about a development project. I hope to share with you the rewards as well as the frustrations of such an undertaking. I would also like to document all the necessary local support and follow-up needed long after the installation has been paid for. From my experience in Uganda and the Peace Corps, this sustainability is the most challenging aspect to achieve and is very often neglected as a result

Rasa and I are home in New York, well at least until the 30th of October when we leave again for our next journey. We just bought one-way tickets to Turkey.
We are glad to be finished in Honduras but sad to have left. It is a strange feeling leaving your life behind every year. Your friends, home and worldly possessions become mobile. Our friends became email addresses and Skype IDs but never seem that distant. Our home becomes the hotel or bed we happen to be sleeping in that night and is always nice to curl up in. Everything important to us fits into our backpacks but always seems to be enough. Yes, we were sad to say goodbye but excited at the possibilities that lay ahead.
We will not be breaking ties completely with PWW. On Tuesday, we plan to leave for DC where we will meet the new volunteer, Dan Ziegler a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer from the Philippines. He will drive with us back up to Vermont for a farewell/welcome brunch at Carolyn's house (802-747-0778) on the 21 st from 11 to 2pm. Even after that, we plan to stay in touch, we are always holding out for that Africa job. Or maybe an invitation to a great water conference like the one coming up in Haiti ( www.haitiwatersummit.org). But we will continue to promote and speak for PWW no matter where we are.
For the possibilities that lay ahead, Turkey is next but not quite how we planned. We did want to fly into London and then overland to Syria but given the costs involved, it was out of our budget. Also with our Cairo wedding in May and the need to spend six months in Damascus, we did not have the time to spend a month in Europe. We figure that with graduate school in England there will be plenty of chances to meet our friends and family next year. In the meantime, Syria will be our next home.

Are we worried about our safety? Ironically enough, our biggest fear of danger is from our own government bombing us. As the cartoon above illustrates the US has started its preparation of reasons for war with Iran and possibly Syria. It will be interesting to be on the other side of this to see and write about what life is like. To learn the language, talk with the people, and understand their culture are our goals while we are there. We hope through this to provide a journal of life very different from how Fox News sees it.
