This week we finally got a vacation. After having worked our girls for the previous three weekends they needed some time off so we all took a 4 day weekend (and that is why I was able to send out 5 blog entries). For the three days we did work, we finished up the community of El Recreo. I put together a little picture story to show the difficulity we faced during some of these instalations.
Here is some background on these deliveries: To reach these two houses we had to crossthree rivers and walk about a half mile. The first river we were able to drive across, the second we had to carry the filter and the third we were able to drag it across. Using the dolly to move the filter up the sandy riverbed was the hardest part of this delivery. We finially made it to the house to find it was a small shack full of smoke, we could hardly breath while during the installation.
First, we tried to load a filter up onto a horse, who wasn't too happy about this.
We then decided to strap up a harness and carry it across the river.
This part was the hardest part of delivering the filter
This was the last river we had to cross. From here it was just a matter of a small hill to reach the house.
Here is the house, the bed is to the right and the stove left of the red dish basin.
Notice all the wood smoke from cooking. After water, lung problems are one of the biggest health problems in the developing world.
After all that Jeff needed a rest.
