The week of the 15th started out on a low note but finished off much better with the completion of our 100th filter! Monday through Friday was spent in nonstop, mind numbing Spanish meetings dealing with politics. For each municipality we have to arrange for the local mayor to pay for transportation but as we learned, they don't always want to send filters to the communities selected. We had to spend a great deal of time making sure this mayor was happy and willing to help us. In this case, we had to have health data to support our choice of communities because he wanted us to install filters where there was not as great a need. In the end though, all the details were worked out and everyone was happy with the plan. We almost thought we would have a day off on Saturday but we decided to spend it inspecting and moving filters around. We were very happy to have a final reject rate of 10% for our large filters and we figured out the small ones were not being vibrated long enough to settle the cement. Finally, after four months of preparing, planning and meetings we will start our first installation in El Recreo.
